On Saturday, April 1, in Oleksandriya, at the Nika stadium, the match of the nineteenth round of the Ukrainian Premier League in football will take place, in which Oleksandria and Vorskla Poltava will play. The referee’s starting whistle will sound at 15:00 Kyiv time.
The team from the Kirovograd region led by Ruslan Rotan, unlike the first half of the season led by Yuriy Gura, is distinguished by stability. However, this is far from the stability that the team’s fans can dream of. Four official meetings in 2023 – four draws. It would seem that the team is steadily gaining points, but in the situation in the top half of the standings, the loss of two out of three possible points after each match is much more important in the long run. The backlog from Dynamo Kyiv is already five points, but there is still a match in hand, so the White-Blues definitely shouldn’t relax.
Rotan during the international pause, among all the other coaches of the UPL participating teams, probably had a unique experience. One way or another, but to work at the head of the national and youth teams for two matches in such a short time was a serious challenge. At the same time, the head coach of Oleksandriya also managed to once again look at his charges at the club level, like Dmitry Mikhailenko or Denis Miroshnichenko. And, in general, to say that the “polygraphers” have some problems with the selection of performers for each position, it would be completely inappropriate.
The composition of the club is woven from experienced performers, among which young football players with great ambitions, like the same Emil Mustafayev, are already noticeably distinguished. But where are the results? The team started with a 3:3 draw against Metalist 1925, then it was 2:2 against Dnipro-1, after which it was 1:1 against Minai, and Oleksandriya went on a break from 0:0 against Metalist “. As you can see, the available descending account options have exhausted themselves, and therefore the main question is what’s next?
And then the “polygraphers” in the calendar is the Poltava “Vorskla”, with which they have already shared points in the first half of the season. And if we do not take into account the friendly matches between these teams, then an interesting fact will become obvious – the “green-white” and “Alexandria” have absolute equality in terms of the number of victories and world outcomes in face-to-face confrontations. Considering that Yuri Maksimov’s team started 2023 as uncertainly as it conducts the current campaign as a whole, it will look for the coveted points anywhere. At the end of the football year, Poltava residents are scheduled to play against Dynamo, Dnipro-1 and Shakhtar, each of which will solve its own tournament tasks.
The problems of the club’s management have been accompanying the performances of the Poltava team for more than a year, but the team had somehow managed to achieve relatively good results before. In the same season, things are completely different, and it is certainly not the departure of conditional midfielder Vincent Till that has such a strong effect on the quality of football performed by Vorskla.
Igor Perduta, Vladimir Chesnakov, Ruslan Stepanyuk are still noticeable in the Green-Whites, and recently Taulant Seferi and goalkeeper Pavel Isenko, who is already called the main anti-penalist of the current championship, play a special role. And even though Skripnik’s team is doing quite well in terms of goals scored, however, four matches without victories in a row have already thrown it beyond the equator of the standings, and possible subsequent failures threaten to fall into the relegation zone.
The football paths of Oleksandria and Vorskla have previously crossed 30 times within the UPL, the First Leagues of Ukraine and the USSR, as well as the Ukrainian Cup. There is an equality in the number of victories of both teams – 10 successful matches of “polygraphs” against 10 victories of the Poltava team, while 10 meetings ended in a draw. The last time the teams played each other in an official match was in September last year – the game in Uzhgorod at Avangard ended in a draw without goals scored (0:0).
“Alexandria”: Shevchenko – Tsurikov, Baboglo, Bondarenko, Miroshnichenko – Kovalets, Mikhailenko, Mustafaev – Tretyakov, Kulakov, Kalitvintsev.
Vorskla: Isenko – Batsula, Chesnakov, Ramirez, Perduta – Pavlyuk, Chelyadin – Oleinik, Rodriguez – Seferi, Stepanyuk.
