On December 29, a new team tennis tournament called the United Cup starts, in which both men and women will play. Competitions under the auspices of the ATP and WTA will be held in three Australian cities: Brisbane at the Patrick Rafter Arena, Perth at the RAC Arena and Sydney at the Ken Rosewall Arena. The first match starts at 03:00 Kyiv time.
Tournament Format
18 teams were divided into six groups of three teams. Each host city will play two groups. Winners form playoff pairings geographically. The three winning teams in the City Finals, as well as the top-performing one losing team, will advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final will take place in Sydney.
The format of the meetings between the teams includes two singles matches between men, two between women and a mixed doubles match. There will be one men’s and one women’s singles in each session, with the mixed doubles match being the last in line.

18 participating teams, which included 3-4 players from the women’s and men’s rounds, were selected as follows:
6 countries qualified based on the ATP rankings of their best singles players. 6 countries qualified based on the WTA rankings of their best singles players. Another 6 countries qualified based on the combined rankings of their ATP and WTA top ranked players (here also one place is reserved for the host team if it fails the first two qualifying criteria).

Given that the team tournament is organized not by the ITF, but by the ATP and WTA, then all participants have excellent chances to earn not only prize money, but also points in the world ranking. But they will depend on the rating of the beaten opponent.

The prize fund is 15 million US dollars. Players will receive a separate reward for participation (depending on the rating, you need to play at least two matches in the group stage), as well as prize money for winning individual matches and a bonus for winning the national team in each of the team matches. The prize money for men and women is the same.
