Novak Djokovic’s three-year visa ban in Australia is set to be lifted, and the sporting world has reacted to the huge news that will dominate headlines in 2022.

After attempting to enter the country under what was later determined to be an invalid exemption from being vaccinated against COVID-19, the Serbian former world No.1 was given a three-year ban in January 2022.

‘NOT HAPPY’: Rafa Nadal responds to criticism following a 13-year low.

Former Immigration Minister Alex Hawke issued the three-year ban during the previous government, with Djokovic’s visa status posing a conundrum for the Anthony Albanese government.

Following the international uproar, the 21-time grand slam champion stated that he would not get the vaccination in order to play tennis.

This caused him to miss the US Open as well as a number of tournaments where countries had strict entry policies.

However, it has been widely reported that current immigration minister Andrew Giles will overturn Djokovic’s ban following the removal of the requirement that visitors entering Australia be vaccinated.

While the news has yet to be confirmed, Djokovic, who is currently competing in the ATP Finals in Turin, would have welcomed the news, having stated last week that he was hoping for an answer in the coming days.

The tennis world erupted upon hearing the news.
