The captain of the Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny ended the 2022/23 World Cup season ahead of schedule. This was told by the coach of the team Juraj Sanitra.
According to the coach, Pidruchny passed a positive test for COVID-19 and will not start at the next two stages of international top competitions.
The 31-year-old biathlete has been forced to miss two full months since the start of the season due to knee surgery. Pidruchny managed to recover by the start of the 2023 World Cup in Oberhof, where he was in the top 10 in the sprint (5th) and pursuit (8th).
At the stage in Nove Mesto, which ended on Sunday, March 5, Pidruchny started only in the sprint – 32nd place. Having qualified for the persuit, Dmitry did not enter the race – precisely because of the coronavirus disease that the biathlete was diagnosed with during the stage.
COVID-19 added to the knee problems that plagued Pidruchny upon his return to competition.
