24-year-old football player of the Spanish club “Chipion” Francisco Naval Perez was stabbed to death in Cadiz in broad daylight.
Police believe the soccer player, nicknamed Paco Naval, was killed in a “random attack” in southern Spain. After that, a 20-year-old suspect was arrested.
Pérez died in hospital on Sunday, April 2 after being stabbed in the chest at around 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon in Cadiz.
The 20-year-old suspect, who has not been named and has no criminal record, is in police custody. He allegedly stabbed the player in the chest with a large knife for no apparent reason, the Spanish Civil Guard said.
Authorities also said there were no known links between the suspect and the victim and that the attack appears to have been accidental.
Words of condolence were expressed by many football clubs, including Real Madrid.
Our hearts go out to Paco Naval’s family, teammates, and Chipiona CF during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Paco. Your legacy on the field and in your community will never be forgotten. Condolences from the entire football family. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/2IrTS0aj3o
