John Fury, the father of British boxer Tyson Fury, believes that a secret deal was signed for the fight between the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and American Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk lost his fight with Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world boxing champion due to problems related to the fee clause in the rematch contract.
Holding the WBA, WBO and IBF belts, Usyk is set to defend his titles against another British fighter Daniel Dubois. The 25-year-old boxer is the mandatory challenger for the Ukrainian WBA title and insists he is ready to return this summer after recovering from a knee injury in December. His promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that the Briton is ready for the challenge.
However John FuryTyson Fury’s father, claims that Wilder has agreed to fight Usyk in the near future in Saudi Arabia, and Dubois will be offered money for postponing his fight with the Ukrainian.
John Fury: It’s strange, but I have a hunch that their fight will take place in Saudi Arabia. They are good friends with Usyk and I believe they signed Deontay Wilder. I know Daniel Dubois is a contender, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Frank Warren get some money to put off Usyk.”
Wilder has only fought once since losing twice to Fury in 2020 and 2021. Deontay returned to the ring in October 2022 and knocked out Finn Robert Helenius in the first round. Both Wilder and Usyk have endorsed the idea of fighting each other in the past.
