On the night of April 2, the match of the 13th round of the Mexican Football Championship between the clubs “America” and “Leon” took place. The game ended with the score 2:2.
The fight was officiated by a Mexican referee Fernando Gomez. It was with him and the Leon player Lucas Romero an unfortunate incident took place.
In the 63rd minute of the match, Diego Valdes scored a goal and put America ahead, the score became 2:1. Lyon player Stephen Barreiro started talking to the referee as he didn’t understand why the goal was allowed. The scorer, Valdes, also decided to join the conversation, but not verbally, but with a push. A fight broke out around the judge. As a result, Fernando Gomez punished Barreiro and Valdes with a yellow card.
While Gomez was holding a mustard plaster, Lucas Romero, who plays for the guests, approached him. But instead of answering the player, the referee decided to just kick him in the groin. Romero fell to the ground, and the video of the episode went viral on social media.
As a result, the disciplinary commission of the Mexican Football Federation suspended the referee for 12 matches, and Romero for two matches.
