28-year-old biathlete of the Ukrainian national team Anastasia Merkushina reacted to criticism about the words of her sister Alexandra about performing for her own development, and not for the fans.
– Do you now regret that this discussion has become public?
– Yes and no. On the one hand, I didn’t want this abscess to break through, but on the other hand, such things have been happening for more than a year, they were just latent. And then it was as if a catalyst had been thrown, which activated the seething process. Let this be our last attempt to explain to people that this is not the way to go. Perhaps someone will draw conclusions. After all, representing athletes from this side, especially on one specialized site, which is very offended and continues to write nasty things, is beyond the scope. Yes, they are deleting very bad comments, but at the same time they are also deleting the posts of those who stand up for the athletes, and this has been happening for over a year now. I was personally told by colleagues from cross-country skiing, who tried to intervene in the discussion there and explain that it was impossible to say this without owning the situation, but they were simply sent to the ban. As well as a whole group of fans who supported the athletes, not me specifically. And what kind of persecution they staged there for Nikolai Nikolaevich Zots.
I’m not talking about how in my best seasons I was hated on this site for my appearance, especially for my teeth…
But it’s not just about the comments, you understand that even an editorial can be written in different ways. For example, “the athlete took the team from seventh to fourth place, two minutes behind,” or “the athlete lost the fight for the podium at the finish line.” It sounds different and evokes completely different emotions.
I only once turned to this site with a request to congratulate the honored coach of Ukraine Igor Miroslavovich Pochinko on his jubilee. To which they answered: “Yes, he is certainly an honored specialist, but we congratulate only those who are now in the national team.” But it seems to me that for a person who gave his whole life to biathlon, lives and breathes it, and still trains, an exception could be made, especially on the round date – 70.
And this attitude is there for all coaches. Even foreign specialists who came to our team said that this is a hotbed of hatred and that this should not be. If you remember, at some point an alternative site was created, but it closed rather quickly, due to the fact that it was positive. And on such stories as ours, you can make traffic. People will come, click, and click-through is money. Advertising on the site, as we can see, has not been canceled, and judging by its quantity, it gives more than is necessary for the content of the domain.
